Internet Phone Companies

There are a variety of Internet phone service companies out there and all of them have different plans and prices, so be sure to read the fine print in order to get the provider that is perfect for you. Listed below are a few choices:

    Top Pick
  • Skype has several plans that range in cost from $2.95 to $9.95 a month. Their services include features like unlimited landline and cell phone calls* to the US, Canada or even world-wide, and no missed calls. It is easy to use and setup, and it doubles as an instant messenger application as well. Skype is our favorite.

  • Other Great Internet Phone Options

  • Broadvox Direct’s plan is $19.95 a month for unlimited residential service. Because they are operated by an IP network, their service is very efficient. Customers describe its service as excellent quality with numerous features; however, it’s not available in all areas.

  • Packet 8 is $19.95 with unlimited calling. It was one of the first Internet phone services, but is not as well-known as they used less aggressive marketing than their chief competitor, Vonage. Packet 8 has the same features as Vonage, but cost a lot less. They have excellent reviews by their customers; however, as Packet8’s main hub is in California. Those living on the east coast or as far west as the Mississippi River have had glitches in their service.

  • Broadvoice is also $19.95 a month for unlimited world-wide calling, making them one of the best international Internet phone services. Customer satisfaction varies by location, and you will want to watch for hidden fees that can make the final monthly bill as much as $34 a month.

  • Vonage has an unlimited calling plan for $24.95 a month—however; the first 3 months are only $9.95. They also offer a business service for $39.99. Other available features include a toll-free number ($4.95 monthly), and a second box for a fax line ($9.99 monthly). Standard features are call-waiting, caller ID, voice mail and call forwarding. Customer satisfaction is high with minimal complaints such as taking some time to port #, and CSRs who are overly eager being minimal.

  • VoicePulse is 34.99 a month for their America Unlimited Plan; however, for the first year you can get the service for $24.99. It has great customer reviews for its extensive array of features, ease of setup, tech support, call quality and much more.

  • AT & T CallVantage has an unlimited calling plan for $29.99 a month. And, although it is a bit higher than others, it has high praise from its customers for its ease of installation, call quality, reliability, tech support and money value. In addition AT & T no longer markets traditional consumer phones, so it appears that they are truly committed to VOIP services.

  • Time Warner Cable has a Nationwide Plan that offers unlimited calls anywhere in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada for $39.95 a month with their International Plan costing an additional $19.95 a month. However, be sure to read the fine print as some features and additional charges may occur from state to state.

  • Viatalk has several calling plans ranging from a single line for $9.95 a month to $199.00 for two unlimited phone lines for the price of one and one free year of service.
